Early days…
"Technically, our first date was a shopping trip to Topman," says Tyelle. "Neil asked me to go along with him to help pick out some clothes. That turned out to be the day we began dating. "We officially met at church in March, 2008, where Neil plays lead guitar for a band. But actually, I had my eye on him ever since I first joined, six months earlier!"
The proposal…
After falling in love, Neil popped the question - via Facebook. "He called me while I was at work and asked me if I had seen a private message he had sent me," Tyelle tells us. "I went online and found a video recording of him playing the guitar and singing a song which he had written, asking me to marry him. He said if my answer was 'yes' to hurry home. I did, and when I arrived, he had a meal laid out with blue roses on the table. He then got down on one knee, with a ring, and asked me again." With the proposal in place, the creative pair set a date and whisked up a whirlwind wedding. "I have never been one of those women who has dreamt about their wedding day their whole life. I was pretty clueless and, before I knew it, I had three weeks to organise it!"
The venues…
"I couldn't bear the thought of getting married in an old Victorian building or anywhere too traditional. I starting freaking out at the thought of it, until my sister came to my rescue. She knew I wanted something away from the norm, so she came up with the idea of a night club and we chose the Hoxton Pony. It was young, funky and abstract. I thought it was absolutely perfect."
The dress…
"I know this is crazy, but I didn't try on any dresses at all. The whole idea of walking into boutique after boutique and trying on dress after dress was too much for me. Instead, I went on eBay, where I found a factory in China that made wedding dresses, and sent in my measurements. I said a little prayer and, two weeks before my wedding, the dress arrived. It was perfect in every way. "My sister and two close friends, one of whom flew all the way from South Africa, were my bridesmaids. They were all pregnant at the time, and five weeks apart from one another, so it was rather difficult to choose a dress for them! Finally we opted for black maternity gowns, to show off their bumps, adding lilac ribbons to break up the colour."
The decorative touches…
"There was already nice art work and good lighting inside the venue so we didn't need to decorate it very much. We simply added some candles, ribbon, artistic photos and our centrepieces which consisted of mirrored boxes with a photo of us on the top."
Top tips…
"Relax, stay calm and enjoy the day. Ask people that you love and trust to take over some of the responsibilities so you don't have to stress" Tyelle advises.
The honeymoon…
We spent our first night as man and wife in The Malmaison, an awesome hotel in London. It was so great that we booked a second night there. We then headed off on a road trip through Essex. We ended up in Clacton-on-Sea, which we chose as it seemed relaxed and quiet - and the British weather was great!
