I need a colour boost!
Q. I have mousy hair and hazel eyes and really want to give my locks a colour boost for my wedding in November. I haven't dyed my hair before. Can you recommend any tones or application methods to me?
A. Inanch Emir says: Inanch says: There are two options: The first is to go for a simple, but effective, colour gloss which will add tone and shine to your hair making it really glow. The second option is to apply a few hazel tones and lighter browns to your hair. Don't overdo it around your face though; the idea is to add warmth and variation without it being too excessive. |

I'm after luscious locks!
Q. My hair is looking very dry, flat and dull and I want it to look full and gorgeous on my big day. Are there any treatments I can have to improve its condition?
A. Inanch Emir says: If you want to use something at home, I would suggest Philip Kinglsey's Elasticizer. It's great for improving the health of extremely broken or damaged hair, whether it's as a result of chemical processing, physical trauma or poor health. Frequent use of this intensive treatment should restore elasticity and shine so I would recommend you get going and start using it once a week for one to two months before your wedding. For a salon-based treatment, I recommend Micro Mist, a revolutionary new treatment that rejuvenates hair, giving it the strength you need. As the name suggests, it uses mist rather than steam which is generated by ultrasound to process the conditioning treatment. It works in two ways: Firstly, it penetrates the cuticle of the hair to a greater depth, pushing the product deeper inside the hair where it's needed most. Secondly, it has a cooling system at the end of each treatment, which cools your locks and closes the cuticles, trapping the treatment inside. As a result it gives a much longer lasting finish, which will see you through the big day and beyond. |

I want to add volume
Q. As an Asian woman my hair is very straight and I really want to add some volume for my wedding day. Any suggestions?
A. Inanch Emir says: Asian hair tends to be very heavy which means it's not really suitable for voluminous looks, which often fall flat within minutes. What hairdressers can do to create volume is use texturising cutting methods. Ask your stylist to cut in layers which will add texture, and automatically create movement and lift. A good hairspray, such as Schwarzkopf Silhouette, can then ensure a firm yet natural hold to last the big day. Alternatively, go for a dramatic up do which can give the illusion of volume and will look great all day. |

Wow Factor
Q. I want to wow my fiancé with a radical new hair do. Do you have any suggestions?
A. Inanch Emir says: It's easy to create a wow factor by changing how you usually wear your hair. Let your personal style and character determine whether it's an extreme or slight change. If you have long hair you could simply ask your hairdresser to add layers or change the colour. If your fiancé usually sees you with your hair down, why not ask for a creative up-do? Short hair can be more difficult to change but again, the colour can be altered or you can go all-out with hair extensions for a whole new look. As it's your big day it's important to be happy and comfortable with the results. I recommend a consultation with your hairdresser and colourist before any decision is made as they can advise you which styles will suit your face shape and hair type.

Flyaway Hair
Q. My hair is very fine and I want it to look full of volume in my wedding pictures. What can I do to achieve this?
A. Inanch Emir says: To add thickness and volume to fine hair I would recommend using products like Maximizer by Philip Kingsley before you blow dry your hair. Also talk to your stylist about some blow drying techniques to ensure that you make the most of your locks. If this still doesn't give you the results you are looking for, extensions are a very effective way of making hair a lot thicker on a temporary basis. |

Lasting Style
Q. How can I ensure that my hairstyle will last my whole wedding day?
A. Inanch Emir says: Keeping your hair in place during your special day is all about preparation, good products and a great stylist. Your hair length, texture and whether you're wearing it up or down will determine which products and styling techniques should be used. Preparing the hair properly is paramount. If you choose an up do, shampoo your hair the morning of, or night before, the wedding as clean hair will not hold a style very well. If you're wearing long hair down, speak to your stylist about what looks are realistic to achieve with your hair type. If you want cascading waves but your hair is straight it can be achieved, but you may need to have it set to give it the staying power you want. |

Staying Power
Q. I've decided on a glamorous up-do for my wedding. How can I make sure it stays in place all day and night?
A. Inanch Emir says: If you have straight hair and you want curls it is vital that the hair is set properly and excess amounts of hairspray are applied to keep the hair in place throughout the evening. On a different scale, if you have frizzy hair and want it straight for your special day, you need to ensure that it is blow-dried thoroughly so it stays frizz-free all evening. This is where styling products play an important part! |

Colour Craze
Q. How close to my wedding day should I have my hair coloured or highlighted?
A. Inanch Emir says: If you have a regular colourist that you have seen for at least three consecutive visits I would recommend having your hair done within a week of your wedding.
This way it will be fresh and re-growth free for the wedding day and throughout your honeymoon. If you don't have a regular colourist, however, I would strongly recommend that you find one and have at least a partial set of highlights six to eight weeks before the day.
You can then have a full head of colour the week of your wedding if you are happy with the results from your first appointment. If you are looking for a new colourist, ask around for personal recommendations, preferably from people with similar hair to yours or with a similar colour to how you would like it to be. |

Luscious Locks
Q. I'm thinking about having hair extensions for my wedding day but am not sure what to look for. Can you advise me?
A. Inanch Emir says: Firstly think about what look you would like to achieve. Do you want to wear your hair up, or down? Do you want a temporary solution, such as wefts or hair pieces, or a permanent one that will last throughout your honeymoon too? Either way, it is important to research your options to achieve the look that's right for you.
Use the internet and book a few consultations with salons that you like the look of. These consultations should be cost free and with no obligation to buy.
Look for application methods that won't damage your natural hair. Good extensions should also achieve an exact colour match to your natural locks ? so no-one will be able to tell but you. |
